Chacruna, also known as Psychotria viridis, is a woody plant (it looks like a tree, but is in fact a bush plant) which belongs to the Rubiaceae family (‘Coffee family’). The leaves contain the hallucinogenic—or entheogenic—indole alkaloid dimethyltryptamine (DMT). It is known primarily as an additive to the Ayahuasca brew used in South and Central America.
